FAQ's
What do I need before taking or booking driving lessons?
Currently in the UK you have to be 17 years of age to obtain a provisional licence to drive a car or ridea motorcycle - unless in receipt of a disability allowance, when you can obtain a provisional licence at
the age of sixteen years. You must be in possession of a provisional driving licence before you are
able to drive on a public road. You can obtain a driving licence application form called a D1 from any main post office.
How many driving lessons will I need?
There is currently no minimum or maximum amount. It will be largely dependent on your own aptitude and personal rate of learning ability. This is where taking professional training from a DSA (Driving Standards Agency) Approved Driving Instructor is the best course of action, particularly if you have
little or no previous driving experience, but to give an estimate I would say about 65 hours.
What car do you have?
Renault Clio manual with air conditioning, fully insured for learner drivers with dual controls.
Do you offer 2 hour driving lessons?
Yes we do, 2 hours, 90 minutes or hourly lessons, please phone me for more details.
Can I start driving lessons before taking my theory test?
Yes you can and probably should, as the practical experience will help you to understand the questions and answers contained in the theory test. Likewise what you should be studying for the theory test.
Can I take driving lessons in my own car?
It will depend on the discretion of your driving instructor. Most will allow this but will probably want
your first lesson to be taken in a driving school car to assess your current driving ability and level you have reached.
Can I take my driving test in an automatic car?
Yes you can but when you pass your driving test in an automatic this will be the only type of vehicle
you will be entitled to drive. Whereas if you pass your pratical driving test in a manual vehicle which
has a manual gear box then you will be entitled to drive either cars unaccompanied.
Where can I find more information on driving tests and driving licence categories?
Follow the following link to the driving standards agency: http://www.dsa.gov.uk/
Can I do a intensive driving course in a week?
You can but you must be in possession of provisional driving licence and have passed your theory test before starting the intensive driving course. Also bear in mind there is usually a 3 week waiting period before a practical driving test can be booked.
Do you charge for cancellations?
Yes we must have 48 hours advance notice.
**This is at the discretion of the driving instructor and a cancellation charge may not apply**
When I pay the DSA for my practical driving test does this cover charges for your car hire?
No it does not, we charge a standard driving lesson charge of one hour @ £20
For example if you have a one hour driving lesson before your practical driving test the charge will be
as follows: One hour driving lesson @ £20 plus the hire of the car @ £20 so the total payable on the day would be £40
Do you teach in automatic cars?
No we do not, we only use manual cars.
What if I get 6 points on my driving licence in the first 2 years?
You will have to re sit your practical driving test as a learner and will also have to resit your theory test.
What can I expect to do on my first driving lesson?
Firstly your instructor will ask to see your provisional driving licence and will then test your eyesight by asking you to read a number plate @ 20.5 mtrs distance.
On your first driving lesson you should expect to be able to move off and stop safely.
Can I be picked up for my driving lessons form other places rather than just my Home address?
Yes you can, pick up and drop off can be arranged from Home, work place or any sensible distance.
Do you conduct mock driving tests?
Yes we do as we find this is the best way to prepare you for your real driving test.
The DSA pratical test is difficult enough to pass so you need to ensure you have the best possible chance of passing at your first attempt.
Do you give gift vouchers?
Yes we do offer gift vouchers for any occasion.
What if my driving test is cancelled by the DSA?
The DSA will re arrange your driving test for you at a later date free of charge.
